Mercedes-Benz 230 SL “Pagode”
The Mercedes W113, named because of its concave curved hard top as a “Pagoda” by the press, had its premiere in
1963 as the 230 SL model. It had a safety body, a stiff passenger cell, crush zones, disc brakes at the front, gas
pressure shock absorbers and a tight, yet very comfortable, suspension. The engine has a six piston injection pump
and likes being driven fast at higher speeds. Despite the comparatively low top speed of approx. 200 km/h, the
230 SL achieved similar lap times as the Ferrari 250 GT on a French racetrack.
